High school basketball semi-final matchups

The High School Boys Basketball League will determine their city final participants on Thursday as six semi-final matchups are scheduled. Semi-finals winners in the senior, junior and midget divisions will advance into Saturday's city championships.

The High School Boys Basketball League will determine their city final participants on Thursday as six semi-final matchups are scheduled.

Semi-finals winners in the senior, junior and midget divisions will advance into Saturday's city championships.

In senior, the first place St. Mary's Knights will host the Sir James Dunn Eagles while the second place and defending city champion Bawating Braves will host the third place Korah Colts. Both games will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Eagles advanced into the semi-final with a thrilling 61-59 double overtime victory over the St. Basil Saints in quarterfinal action on Tuesday. Jamie Weldon topped the Eagles with 19 points while Josh Marasco replied with a game high 25 points for the Saints.

Korah galloped into the semi-final with a 65-32 win over the White Pines Wolverines. Christian Johnson topped the Colts with 13 points while Jake Doan led the Wolverines with 12 points.

In junior, the first place Knights will entertain Sir James Dunn in one semi-final while Korah will travel to second place St. Basil. Tip-off time for both games is 6 p.m.

The Eagles advanced with a 63-50 win over White Pines while Korah rolled past Bawating 60-20 in Tuesday's quarterfinals.

Anthony Fick scored 15 points to lead SJD while Todd Hicks led the Wolverines with 15. Top scorer for Korah was Connor Desjardins with 13 points while Clark McMillan topped Bawating with seven.

In the midget semi-finals, first place St. Mary's will host St. Basil while the second place Colts will host the Bawating Braves. Both games start at 4:15 p.m.

In the quarterfinals, St. Basil rolled past Sir James Dunn 55-34 on the strength of 22 points from Cameron Hewgill. Ryan Poser tossed in 12 points for the Eagles.

Meanwhile, Bawating nipped White Pines 43-37 in the other playoff. Mike Rivard scored 14 points to lead the Braves while Mike Hope and Kyle Gareau led the Wolverines with nine points each.

The eventual city champions will have the option of what level to play at the Northern Ontario Secondary Schools Association (NOSSA) championships next weekend.

Sault Ste. Marie will host the NOSSA 'AAA' playdowns while Central Algoma Secondary School may be in line to host the NOSSA 'A' playdowns.
