Guy Vetrie Tournament begins tonight

Toronto Academy Prep School is back to defend it's crown and 15 others will be looking to dethrone the champs as the Annual Guy Vetrie Invitational Basketball Tournament begins on Thursday night in Sault Ste. Marie.

Included in the field of 16 senior high school basketball teams are five local entries from White Pines, Sir James Dunn, Bawating, St. Basil and Korah along with Desbarats' Central Algoma Secondary School Huskies.

Round robin action within each pool begins on Thursday night and will continue through Friday. Playoff and championship games are scheduled for Saturday.

Other top teams included in this year's field are the powerful Father Henry Carr Crusaders, London Beal and Humberview from Brampton. Sault rival Sudbury Lasalle will also be in town along with perennially strong Timmins High. Blind River and Elliot Lake are also included.

Former Bawating star D.J. Wright will also return to his former stomping grounds as a member of TAPS.
