The Soo Greyhounds have signed 2022 draft pick Christopher Brown.
A 5-9, 156-pound centre, Brown was the Greyhounds first round pick in the 2022 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection in the spring.
In a prepared statement, Brown spoke of being “excited and honoured” to be drafted by the team.
After the selection of Brown, Greyhounds general manager Kyle Raftis said he felt the young forward could turn into “a real force for us.”
“Brown is an elite skater, really creative with the puck and can just find and create lanes for himself and his teammates,” Raftis said. “He’s just somebody that makes everybody around him better. He’s got a great motor in terms of his work ethic. He has a lot of those tools in how he thinks the game, his skating, and his skill level that once that strength comes, he’s going to be a real force for us.”
In 46 games last season with the North York Rangers U16 team, Brown scored 19 goals and 60 points.
The 16-year-old is currently in Calgary participating in Hockey Canada’s Under-17 Development Camp. He is one of two Greyhounds prospects at the camp, the other being goaltender Landon Miller.
