With training camp on the horizon, the Soo Greyhounds have rounded out its coaching staff.

The organization announced Tuesday morning that Tyler Ertel has been hired as a new assistant coach, filling the role left vacant when the team decided to not bring back Brent Hughes.

Ertel joins a staff that includes head coach John Dean and assistant coach Brendan Taylor and newly hired goaltender coach Mark Visentin.

In a prepared statement, Ertel sad he's "beyond thrilled" to join the Greyhounds.

Greyhounds general manager Kyle Raftis said Ertel is the right fit for the staff.

"We're really excited to add Tyler to our coaching staff," Raftis said. "Tyler's approach to the game is very progressive and leading-edge. With a focus on relationship building and skill-based learning, he's going to be a key factor in pushing our group further."

"Tyler has extensive experience working with this age group and is super passionate about developing people both on and off the ice," Raftis also said. "He has an excellent reputation for propelling players to the next level. We're excited about the energy he brings and know that it will be infectious throughout our organization."
