With three pre-season games over a five-day stretch and a handful of players still away at NHL camps, it was a move out of necessity in some ways.

On Wednesday morning, the Soo Greyhounds acquired defenceman Brayden Velliaris from the Peterborough Petes in exchange for a 15th round pick in the 2028 OHL draft.

Velliaris, 19, joined the Petes as a free agent prior to the 2023-24 Ontario Hockey League season and ultimately suited up in 32 games for the Eastern Conference club, picking up an assist.

The Greyhounds also added a pair of affiliated players to the roster ahead of tonight’s exhibition game against Saginaw in goaltender Bronx Bodnar and defenceman Isaiah Allen.

Bodnar is currently with the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Blind River Beavers and picked up a win in his first start of the season on Sunday.

After attending the Greyhounds training camp, Allen joined the Beavers as well. The 15-year-old has a pair of assists in two games with the NOJHL club thus far.
