At least they finished the third period this time.
The Sault High Blue Devils hosted the St. Mary's College Knights on Saturday afternoon, on Day 2 of the Rodenroth Motors Showcase held at Big Bear Arena.
It had been eight years since the teams last played — in a game that was called off after two periods, when a massive brawl broke out. The Blue Devils were winning 3-2 at the time.
Fast forward to this past weekend.
The game was scoreless at the end of two periods as both goalies were phenomenal. Blue Devils goalie Cam Labadie stopped 15 shots while Knights goalie Grant Mathewson stopped 17.
Nearly seven minutes into the final period, Garrett Gorsuch scored by slipping the puck past Mathewson, putting the Blue Devils up 1-0.
The Knights had several opportunities to tie the game up but Labadie was up to the task, stopping all shots.
With three seconds left in the game, the Knights had one more chance to score but Labadie smothered the puck and secured the Blue Devil victory.
Total shots on goal had the Knights with 24 and the Blue Devils with 28.
There were a slew of penalties on both sides, with the Knights tallying 12 and the Blue Devils 11.
