Central Algoma Secondary School, St. Basil, White Pines and Sir James Dunn combined to give the east an 8-3 win in the annual east/west game in high school hockey action on Saturday night at Memorial Gardens.
Anchored by a 4-0 Sir James Dunn Eagles victory over the Korah Colts, the east broke away late to defeat the west trio of Bawating, St. Mary's and Korah.
In the opening mini-game, Calahan Spurway and Jordan Dominey scored to give the CASS Huskies and the east a 2-0 win over the Bawating Braves and the west.
The St. Mary's Knights rallied to put the west ahead with a 3-0 victory over the St. Basil Saints on goals by Matt Kudyba, Mitch Butcher and Andrew Posteraro.
Tyler Kostiuk then scored to give the White Pines Wolverines a 1-0 win over St. Mary's and tie the score at 3-3. Josh Reed would add another goal for the Wolverines in a 1-0 win over the Korah Colts.
Brad Hernden scored three times and Max Lamarche once in the Eagles blanking of the Colts.
Regular season action continues on Wednesday with Korah meeting St. Basil at 7 p.m. followed by St. Mary's and CASS at 8:45 p.m. at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
*** NOVEMBER 3rd SUMMARY:
In action from last Wednesday, Justin Wensley's second goal with 53 seconds remaining in the third period to lift the Wolverines to a 4-4 tie with the Huskies.
Reed and Jamie Ishmael also scored for the Wolverines while Josh Beadle, Bill Evoy, Mike Brown and Nigel Brown replied for the Huskies.
In the other game, Dan Matthews scored twice for Bawating and Graham Dalseg twice for Sir James Dunn in a 2-2 draw.
*** OCTOBER 30th SUMMARY:
John Ellis recorded the shutout as the Eagles blanked White Pines 5-0 in the league's regular season opener. Stephan Bouliane, Murray Dunn, Reg Peer, Ari Vitale and Deryl Mills provided the scoring.
In another contest, the Colts doubled the Bawating Braves 6-3 on the strength of Kyle Morley's two goal performance. Daniel Ferris, Luke Critchley, Frank Bumbacco and Bob Hammerstedt also scored for the winners. Craig Lethbridge, Kyle Lanteigne and Scott Huber replied for the Braves.
