A shootout goal by Chase Tallaire was the difference on Friday night as the Soo (Mich.) Eagles scored a home-ice victory over the Soo Thunderbirds.
Tallaire beat Thunderbirds goaltender Landon Miller glove side to give the Eagles a 3-2 shootout win over the Thunderbirds in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action.
After Brodie McConnell-Barker of the Thunderbirds tied the shootout at one in the second round, Tallaire gave the Eagles the shootout lead.
The Tallaire marker was followed up by Eagles goaltender Logan Raffaele stopping Thunderbirds defenceman Kaden Dundas to seal the win.
Bryce Grandboise had both goals for the Eagles in regulation time.
Dharan Cap opened the scoring for the Thunderbirds 27 seconds into the contest and Michael Chaffay had the other goal, a power play marker just over six minutes into the third period.
Miller made 26 saves for the Thunderbirds while Raffaele stopped 31 shots for the Eagles.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 6-3-0-0 while the loss drops the Thunderbirds record to 4-6-0-1.
The Thunderbirds return to action on Tuesday night on the road in Blind River against the Beavers.
