Eagles fly high over the Colts

The Sir James Dunn Eagles turned an opening kick off return and 304 rushing yards into 49 points and a win over the Korah Colts.

Peter McGonegal returned the opening kick 85 yards for a touchdown and then ran for 157 yards and three more major scores as the Eagles recorded a 49-7 High School Football League senior division victory at Rocky DiPietro Field.

The win evens the Eagles record at 1-1 while the Colts fall to 0-2.

Sir James Dunn built a 21-0 lead by half time as McGonegal followed his kick return with touchdown runs of 14 and 11 yards.

As the rain began to fall in the second half, the Colts looked to jump back into the game as Ben Ginter ran two yards for a touchdown.

But McGonegal followed with a 15 yard touchdown run on the next drive to pull the Dunn out of reach.

Spencer Milne ran for two touchdowns from five and two yards out and A.J. Rivard also scored on a 10 yard scamper. Nick Wegener booted seven converts.

Rivard finished with 54 yards rushing on seven carries while Milne had 48 yards on nine carries.

Defensively for the Eagles, Frank Theriault led with five tackles while Ryan Walker added 4.5. Dave Morano made two interceptions and Matt Bernard recovered a fumble.

Ginter led the Colts offense with 59 yards on 16 carries while Mike Burmaster added 34 yards on 13 attempts.

Jake McAllister anchored the Colts defense with six tackles and a fumble recovery while Chad Turner made 4.5 tackles. Burmaster and Daniel Ferris, who also kicked the Colts convert, recorded interceptions.

In junior division action on Friday afternoon, Sir James Dunn rolled past Korah 42-0.

Jarvis Milne and Jimmy Castellani scored two touchdowns each with Adam Piper and Bryan Babic scoring one each. Aaron Robinson kicked six converts.
