Cause of death was not immediately known, but the Travis County medical examiner's office in Austin, Texas confirmed that Johnson is dead and that an autopsy will be conducted.

Johnson played on championship teams with Boston Celtics and Seattle SuperSonics.

He was coaching Austin Toros of the NBA Developmental League.
