SSMAC'S BECKY DAY WINS HIGH POINT TROPHY

A high point trophy win by fourteen-year old local swimmer Becky Day, powered the Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club to an outstanding finish at the NEOR Huronia Long Course Championships over the weekend in Sudbury. SSMAC sent 23 swimmers to participate in the three-day competition and emerged in fifth spot out of 22 clubs.

Day won gold medals in the 400 and 800-metre freestyle races and placed second in the 100 and 200-metre freestyle, and the 100 and 200-metre butterfly events.

The Lee siblings had a successful weekend, led by older brother Brian,14, who won the 400-metre freestyle, and the 200-metre individual medley. Brian placed second in two other races. Steven Lee, 11, secured second spot in the 100-metre breaststroke and Erin Lee won a gold, silver and bronze medal for her efforts.

Chenoa Naylor, 10, garnered silver in the 200-metre freestyle and finished third in the 100-metre freestyle. Naylor qualified to compete in the upcoming junior provincial long course championships.

Ten-year old Tyler Smith placed second in the 200-metre backstroke and third in the 100-metre butterfly.

Hannah Murray, age 12, won a silver medal in the 50-metre freestyle. Teammate, Michael Lawrence, 13, placed third in the 800-metre freestyle.

Other swimmers to produce top-eight results include Sarah Theodossiou, 14, and Shane Rock, 12. Theodossiou placed sixth in the 400-metre freestyle and eighth in the 50-metre freestyle. Rock produced a seventh place finish and three eighth place results.

Fourteen- year old Andrew Dipsell secured seventh in the 200-metre freestyle. Spencer Bordin, age 10, placed eighth in the 100-metre backstroke. Josh Lawrence placed eighth in the 400-metre freestyle.

The SSMAC coaches were thrilled with all of the results. "The swimmers have worked very hard all year and it showed on the weekend", said Coach Nancy Day. "It was a great swim meet with numerous athletes producing personal best times".
