Cougars Return From Toronto

The Sault College Varsity teams returned from a weekend in Toronto with one win in four games.

The women’s volleyball team lost a match Friday night to the # 1 ranked Humber Hawks 25-12, 25-9, 25-16. Kelly Roussell led the Cougars with 10 kills.

In Saturday action the girls lost a close but well fought game to the Sheridan Bruins 25-23, 23-25, 20-25, 25-12, 25-18. Ashley Whitmill led all Sault scorers with 13 points.

On the men’s side Friday night the Cougars lost to the #1 ranked Humber Hawks 81-68 in exhibition action. Top scorers in that game were Jean Louis Ouattara with 22, Ryan Vetrie with 14, and James Tusingwire with 9.

On Saturday the men picked up a win versus George Brown College 87-73. The games top scorers were Jean Louis Ouattara 28, Ryan Vetrie 18, Mike Bouchard 17, and Kevoughn Alleyne 13.

Coach Tom Cory said, “this was a good test for the Cougars men’s basketball team in preparing for the upcoming stretch drive and now that they have seen the number one team in Ontario it is up to the players if they are willing to commit to team play and raising their game for the next five weeks.”

You can catch both Cougar varsity teams in action this coming weekend when they host the Lambton Lions and Redeemer Royals.

The basketball Cougars will host the Lions Friday February 3rd at 7 p.m. with the volleyball game to follow at 9 p.m. On Saturday February 4th, the ladies will host the Royals at noon while the basketball game will tip off at 2 p.m.
