The Soo Greyhounds struggled to find their offensive game as the Barrie Colts shutout the Hounds on Thursday night.

Backed by another solid goaltending performance from Jakub Cech, the Greyhounds managed to hang tight with the Colts before Barrie scored twice in the second period to claim a 2-0 win in Ontario Hockey League action.

The game was the first of back-to-back road contests for the Greyhounds as the team heads into the holiday break. The team visits Guelph tomorrow night before enjoying an eight day layoff.

While Cech, who stopped 37 of 39 shots, was holding his team in the game, the Greyhounds managed only five shots on goal in the first period and four more in the second.

Despite the little amount of action in the first two periods, Colts goaltender Paulo Colaiacovo responded to make 12 stops in the third period and 21 overall to record the shutout.

Andrew Sheenan and Bryan Little on the power play scored for the Colts.

The Greyhounds had an opportunity to jump back into the game in the third period but failed to convert on two power play opportunities.

With the loss, the Greyhounds fall one game below the .500 mark at 17-18-1-1 for 36 points and sit tied for third place with Windsor in the OHL's West Division.

In other OHL action on Thursday, the Peterborough Petes rallied to beat the Sarnia Sting 4-3 on an overtime goal by Brad Bonnello, his second of the game. Daniel Carcillo replied with two goals for the Sting.

Garden River's Trevor Solomon, a rookie defenseman with the Sting, scored his first OHL goal in the second period.

In Windsor, Sault native Craig Kennedy scored once and added two assists to lead the Spitfires past the Plymouth Whalers 4-3.
