If Jakub Cech's performance on Friday night is any indication, the Soo Greyhounds can boast a very reliable goaltending tandem.
Cech, making only his second start of the season in net, stopped 52 of the 54 shots he faced, including 25 saves in the third period, to lead the Greyhounds to a 3-2 win over the Kitchener Rangers in front of 6,011 fans in Kitchener.
The victory marked the seventh consecutive Ontario Hockey League victory for the Greyhounds after a sluggish 1-4-1 start.
The win was also their first in three outings against the defending Memorial Cup Champions, which happen to be the last team to beat the Greyhounds on October 5th.
Scott Dobben scored two goals, including the game winner 1:39 into the third period, and an assist to lead the Greyhounds. Colt King, who added an assist, scored the other Soo goal. Jeff Carter added two assists.
Evan McGrath and Mike Richards scored for Kitchener.
In his only other start this season, Cech stopped 32 of 34 shots in a 3-2 win over the Sarnia Sting on October 10th to begin the current winning streak.
The Greyhounds continue their road trip on Saturday with a match against the Toronto St. Michael's Majors at 2 p.m. On Sunday, the Greyhounds travel to Guelph to play the Storm at 2 p.m.
The next home action for the Greyhounds is Wednesday at 7 p.m. as the Sarnia Sting visit the Memorial Gardens.
