CASS into North Shore, NOSSA championships

The Central Algoma Secondary School girls basketball teams hosted W.C. Eaket in North Shore playoffs. In the senior game, CASS lead 24-13 at the half and cruised to a 34-23 victory.

The Central Algoma Secondary School girls basketball teams hosted W.C. Eaket in North Shore playoffs.

In the senior game, CASS lead 24-13 at the half and cruised to a 34-23 victory. CASS now travels to Elliot Lake for the North Shore Championship Nov. 16.

Amanda Hollingsworth with 14 points and Tiana Bucknell with 12 led the Huskies while Kristen Laframboise had 9 for the Royals.

The CASS junior girls defeated W.C. Eaket in double overtime 45-38. CASS led 31-28 with 7 seconds to go when Hannah Tulloch was fouled during a 3-point attempt and made all 3 free throws to tie the game and go into the first overtime.

CASS dominated the second overtime for the victory. Deanna Hagan lead all scorers with 18 points while Shaylene Kern and Marabeth Mills chipped in with 9 each. Hannah Tulloch had 15 points for the Royals.

CASS will now host Espanola at 1:15 p.m. on Nov. 16 for the NSSSA Championship.

*** BOYS VOLLEYBALL:

CASS will be hosting the Boys “AA”Senior Volleyball Championships Nov. 18.

Teams competing are CASS, Chippewa (North Bay), Lo Ellen Park and St. Benedict of Sudbury. Play starts at 10 a.m. with games on the hour and the championship is at 4:30 p.m.

*** GIRLS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT:

The girls basketball teams hosted a Junior and Senior Tournament on the weekend.

In the senior championship game, Marymount Academy of Sudbury defeated Sir James Dunn 43-33. Ryan Faiella had 21 points for Marymount while Suzanna Miller had 12 for the Dunn.

In the senior consolation game, Bawating defeated CASS 42-34. Lauren Lidstone with 15 points and Sarah Crispell with 13 led the Braves while Hillary McClelland had 8 for the Huskies.

Sir James Dunn defeated CASS 34-26 to win the Junior Championship. Meghan DiAngelo had 13 points for the Eagles while Deanna Hagan had 14 for the Huskies.

In the junior consolation game, Marymount defeated Bawating 24-18. Megan McAloney had 6 points for the Regals while Alexis Lewis and Kristy McLeod had 6 points each for the Braves.
