Team Canada, and a pair of Sault natives in Ron Pyette and Zack Torquato, are one step closer to winning a gold medal at the Junior World Cup.

Belleville Bulls forward Bryan Cameron scored a pair of goals to lead Canada to a 4-1 victory over Slovakia on Thursday afternoon. Brett Sonne and Logan MacMillan also scored for Canada in the win.

Canada outshot Slovakia by a 49-19 margin with goaltender Trevor Cann picking up the win.

Though the win sealed their entry into the final, the Canadian team was already assured of a spot in the championship game.

Team Canada’s opponent had yet to be determined as they awaited the results from the Czech Republic/United States game in Breclav, Czech Republic, which started 30 minutes after the Canada/Slovakia game. The United States entered the game with a 2-0 record after wins over Russia and Finland
