Echo Bay product Jarrett Burton is set to join the American Hockey League’s Rochester Americans.

Burton, 28, has signed a one-year contract with the team after spending much of the 2018-19 season with the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Named the Penguins defensive player of the year, Burton scored six goals and 21 points in 66 games.

In parts of four seasons with the Penguins, Burton scored 24 goals and 53 points in 180 games.

Burton also played five games with the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers in 2018-19, scoring two goals and three points.

In 118 games with Wheeling over the past four seasons, Burton had 33 goals and 80 points.

Prior to turning pro, Burton played four seasons of NCAA hockey at Clarkson following his junior career.

After playing AAA hockey locally, which included one season with the Great North Midget League’s Soo North Stars in 2006-07, a season that also saw him play three games with the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Soo Thunderbirds, Burton spent one season with the Blind River Beavers before finishing his junior career with the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Kingston Voyageurs.
