HOUNDS DEAL WITH STORM
The Soo Greyhounds today traded 18-year old right-winger Brett Trudell to the Guelph Storm for 19-year old goalie Dwight LaBrosse and overage winger Derek Hennessey. Greyhound coach John Vanbiesbrouck, en route with the team to Peterborough for an Ontario Hockey League game with the Petes tonight, confirmed the trade with SooToday.com via cell phone interview. Trudell had 18 goals for the Hounds last season and was in his third season with the team after being a second round pick in 2000. LaBrosse had a 15-11-2 record with a 3.22 goals-against-average and .895 save pct. with the Storm last season. He's a candidate to play for Team USA at the World Junior Hockey Championships this year. Hennessey had 19 goals and 46 points with Guelph last season. He fills the Hounds' third overage spot with summer acquisitions Adam Chapman and Matt Herneisen, a pair of forwards. To make room for LaBrosse, the Hounds have waived 18-year old goalie Jeff Weber. The Hounds' goaltending tandem now includes LaBrosse and 18-year old Joey Biasucci, along with injured 19-year old Brock McGillis. "We hated to give up Brett Trudell who's a good player and a great kid but we made this trade to try to make us a better hockey club," Vanbiesbrouck told SooToday.com. Meanwhile, defenceman Jordan Kennedy, sidelined with mononucleosis, makes his return to the Hounds' line-up tonight. His younger brother Tyler, a rookie centre who's been playing with the Junior Hounds of the Northern Ontario Jr. Jockey League, is also on the road trip and will see action this weekend, according to Vanbiesbrouck.
