The 2025 Canadian national men’s curling championship is well underway and it’s been a good start
Sault product Brad Jacobs and his Alberta-based team including third Marc Kennedy, second Brett Gallant, and lead Ben Hebert. Is 1-0 at the annual event thanks to a win on Saturday afternoon in the second draw of the tournament.
Leading 4-2, Jacobs picked up steals of one each in the fifth and sixth ends, and four more in the seventh en route to a 10-3 win over Thomas Scoffin’s Yukon rink.
Jacobs will return to action on Sunday against Aaron Bartling’s Northwest Territories team at 9:30 p.m. eastern time.
Matt Dunstone’s Manitoba-based team, which includes E.J. Harnden at second and Ryan Harnden at lead, moved to 2-0 on Saturday night thanks to a 13-2 win over Shane Latimer’s Nunavut rink.
Dunstone led 3-1 through three ends before scoring two in the fourth and stealing four in the fifth to take a commanding lead in the game. Dunstone tacked on three more in the seventh before a steal of one in the eighth to cap off the scoring.
Team Dunstone opened the tournament on Friday evening with a 6-2 win over Alberta’s Kevin Koe.
Dunstone returns to action in the afternoon draw on Sunday against Cameron de Jong of British Columbia.
Team Northern Ontario, based out of Sudbury and skipped by John Epping, is 2-0 as well.
The Epping rink opened the tournament Friday night with a 7-6 win in an extra end over James Grattan of New Brunswick.
The win came after Grattan forced the extra with a steal in the 10th end.
In Saturday’s evening draw, the Epping rink broke a 5-5 tie through seven ends with a single in the eighth end before steals of one in the ninth and two in the 10th ends.
Team Northern Ontario is back in action on Sunday afternoon when they face Brad Gushue’s Team Canada rink out of Newfoundland and Labrador.
