For the Soo Cambrian Mazda Midget Black Sox, last night's thunderstorm could not have come at a better time.

With the game set to go into the bottom of the third inning and the Black Sox trailing the Michigan Sault's Eastern Upper Peninsula Travelers 8-0 in Great Lakes Baseball League action, the thunderstorm gradually began to roll on in. The Black Sox got off to a slow start in the game as the first seven E.U.P. hitters of the game all reached base, six by hits and one by an error. Six of them managed to score as they sent 10 batters to the plate and built up an early 6-0 lead. The Sox tried to cut the lead in the bottom of the inning, but a leadoff walk by Justin Soltys was negated after he attempted to take third on a passed ball and was thrown out.

E.U.P. added to the lead in the top of the second when their first hitter reached base, moved to second on a fielder's choice, then over to third and scoring on a single. The Travellers added three more hits in the inning to go with the six they had in the opening inning.

The bottom of the second was no different than the opening inning. After Tyler Binkley was hit by a pitch, the Sox failed to cash in and came out of the inning still without a hit.

The Sox looked as though they were going to get out of the inning unscathed but a solo homerun with two outs changed those plans and put the Travelers up 8-0 through two and a half innings. Then the rains came. The thunderstorms forecast for the area were on the horizon and the wind picked up. By decision of the umpires, the game was delayed for a time before the decision was made to stop the game.

No makeup date for the game has been announced.

The Black Sox next scheduled GLBL game is in the Michigan Sault on Tuesday night.
