The Soo Thunderbirds six-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday afternoon.

The Blind River Beavers scored three unanswered goals en route to a 4-1 win over the Thunderbirds Saturday at the Blind River Community Centre.

It was the first loss for the Thunderbirds since the two teams returned to action as part of a cohort 11 days ago.

The Thunderbirds had opened the six-game stretch between the two clubs, which resumes Sunday afternoon in Blind River, with four consecutive wins.

Blind River opened the scoring in the final minute of the opening period as defenceman Ethan Pegg beat Thunderbirds goaltender Alex Bugeja through traffic from the high slot with 15 seconds to go in the frame.

The visitors got on the board 80 seconds into the second period as Caleb Wood tied the game by beating Blind River netminder Gavin Disano on a redirection after a nice pass from Brock Santa Maria.

The Beavers pulled ahead for good just over five minutes later as Thomas Michaud in traffic deflected a shot past Bugeja to make it 2-1 Beavers.

Blind River would seal the win with a pair of goals in the final 20 minutes.

Noah Minns extended the Blind River lead to 3-1 45 seconds into the third as he beat Thunderbirds netminder Scott Young, who came in for the third period after Bugeja’s night came to an end early due to a misconduct at the end of the second period.

Blake McNally capped off the scoring for the Beavers with an empty net goal with 2:10 to go in regulation time.

Bugeja finished the night with 18 saves in two periods of work while Young made eight saves in the third period for the Thunderbirds.

Disano made 32 saves for Blind River, including 14 in the opening period.

The teams return to action on Sunday afternoon in a 2 p.m. start at the Blind River Community Centre.
