The men's basketball team at Algoma University is looking for a new head coach. Ray Barsanti resigned as head coach of the Thunderbird men last week. The retired educator led Algoma through its first two seasons in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association. With Barsanti at the helm of an infant program, the Thunderbird men posted regular season records of 0-12 and 1-11 while competing in the OCAA West Region. But despite winning only one game, Algoma improved noticeably in Barsanti's second season. The Thunderbirds' first win in school history came at the expense of the Fanshawe Falcons, who wound up making it all the way to the OCAA provincial playdowns. Barsanti said a few factors led to his decision not to return to Algoma for a third season, the biggest of which was family. His three children -- two sons and a daughter -- all live out of town. Algoma athletic director Mark Kontulainen is taking applications until April 7 in looking to fill Barsanti's head coaching position with the Thunderbird men.
