Bantam Hounds fall in NOHA playdowns

After a convincing victory set the stage for a one-game showdown early Sunday morning, the Soo Bantam Greyhounds came up just short in their task to become NOHA Bantam Minor champions.

The Greyhounds dropped a 6-4 decision to the Sudbury Bantam Wolves on Sunday afternoon as they lost their Northern Ontario Hockey Association series by two points. The series, which was based on points and the first team to gain six winning the series, saw the Wolves win seven points to five.

Brian Nanne had a pair of goals for the Hounds in the pivotal game while David Quesnele and Greg Sartoretto added singles in the loss. The Greyhounds fell behind 4-2 in the second period and could not battle back.

On the brink of elimination earlier in the day Sunday, the Greyhounds picked up a 7-0 victory over the Wolves thanks to two goals and two assists by Quesnele. Tyler Pearse also had a pair of goals in the win. Single goals went to Nanne, Sartoretto, and Brent Findlay.

On Saturday, after Nick Romano had a pair of goals to help the Greyhounds to a 2-2 tie early in the day, the Wolves scored a 4-2 victory to send the series into Sunday's action with the Wolves leading five points to three. Romano and Brent Warmington completed the Greyhounds scoring.

On the first day of the tournament, the Wolves scored the weekend's first victory, defeating the Greyhounds 5-3 in game one. Romano, Sartoretto, and Nanne scored for the locals.

The Greyhounds picked up their first win of the tournament later in the day with a 6-2 victory. Romano was the offensive catalyst with a pair of goals as well as two assists. Sartoretto, Quesnele, Warmington, and Nanne also scored.
