The Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club turned in a solid third place performance at the Dave Kensit Memorial Short Course Championships in Sudbury on the weekend.
Twenty members of SSMAC participated in the final short course meet of the season which attracted over 200 swimmers from 14 teams.
Joshua Lawrence won the high point trophy in the boys 11-and-under division with six first place finishes to go with a second. Becky Day finished in a tie for the girls 11-and-under trophy with five victories and a pair of second place finishes.
Jeff Byrne also finished in a tie for the high point trophy in the boys 16-and-over division. Byrne won four races, finished second in two others while capturing a third. On the girls side, Shannon Hazelton had a good weekend with four victories, a second and two third place finishes.
Several others members of SSMAC turned in top three performances including Julia Turgeon, Brian Lee, Julia DeFelice, Sarah Theodossiou, Cait Tomlinson, Kyle Matthews, Sarah Turgeon and Jordan Boucher.
"This event is the showcase for top performers in the region and demonstrated that although we have a younger team, numerous swimmers recorded personal bests and are giving us strong prospects for the future," said SSMAC head coach Rob Moreside.
"This was an opportunity for some swimmers to make provincial level times and participate at the upcoming Ontario-wide competition in early March."
