Make it two days and two splits for Brad Jacobs at the 2019 Canada Cup in Leduc, Alta.
Team Jacobs opened the event on Wednesday with a win and a loss and finished Thursday with another win and a loss.
The Jacobs rink, which includes third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden, dropped a 9-4 decision to John Epping of Toronto on Thursday night and will head into the final day of round robin action with a 2-2 record.
The two teams traded singles through the opening four ends and with the game tied at two, Epping took control of the game with four in the fifth end to take a 6-2 lead.
The teams traded singles in the next two ends and after Jacobs scored one in the eighth end to make it 7-4 before Epping sealed the win with two in the ninth end.
Jacobs opened the day with a 7-5 win over Regina’s Matt Dunstone in the morning draw.
Jacobs took an early lead with a pair in the opening end but Dunstone replied with a pair of his own in the second end.
After Jacobs took a 5-2 lead with three in the third end, Dunstone cut the lead to one with two in the fourth and tied the game with a steal of one in the fifth.
After blanking the sixth and seventh ends, Jacobs took the lead for good with a single in the eighth end before sealing the win by stealing one in the ninth end.
The Jacobs rink returns to action on Friday morning against Edmonton’s Brenden Bottcher in the first draw of the draw before wrapping up round robin action in the afternoon draw against Brad Gushue of St. John’s, Nfld.
The Canada Cup features seven men’s and seven women’s teams with the top team after round robin action moving directly into the final on Sunday while the second and third place teams will play in semifinal games on Saturday.
On the men’s side, three teams will head into action on Friday with a record of 3-1, including Epping, Bottcher, and Calgary’s Kevin Koe.
Jacobs sits in a tie in the standings with Gushue at 2-2.
The tournament winners will earn spots in the 2021 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings and a spot on Team Canada at the 2020 Continental Cup.
