Algoma women's basketball team splits weekend action

The Algoma women picked up a win on Friday night and have won three of their last four games after weekend action

As the Ontario University Athletics basketball season winds down for Algoma University, the school hosted the University of Toronto and Ryerson University in action at the George Leach Centre over the weekend.

The Algoma women’s team opened up the weekend with a tight 57-55 win over UofT, extending their winning streak to three games in the process.

Dionne Martin led Algoma with 12 points while Karly Fracalanza added 11 in the win.

Nada Radonjic led Toronto with 19 points and eight rebounds.

In Sunday’s game, Marin Scotten had 30 points and 10 rebounds as Ryerson beat Algoma 84-63.

Rachel Farwell added 15 points for Ryerson.

Martin led Algoma with 20 points.

On Friday night the Algoma men dropped a 101-80 decision to UofT.

Eric Rwahwire and Chris Barrett had 22 points each for UofT.

Evan Shadkami added 17 points in the win.

Nicholas Gehlen led Algoma with 23 points and had seven rebounds in the game.

Peter Wetuvanga had 18 points for Algoma.

On Sunday, Ryerson took the lead early en route to a 104-52 win over Algoma.

Tevaun Kokko had 23 points while Tom Dumont added 22 points for Ryerson in the win.

Gehlen led Algoma with 26 points.

Next up for both teams are a set of weekend home games against the University of Guelph. The weekend begins with games on Friday night at the George Leach Centre.
