Algoma opens OUA soccer season against Western

The Algoma women's and men's soccer teams opened the season with a pair of double headers against the Western Mustangs at Superior Heights

It was a tough start, but the Ontario University Athletics soccer season opened over the weekend for Algoma University with both the women’s and men’s teams in action against Western.

On the women’s side, Western scored three times in the final eight minutes of the contest to pick up a 4-0 win over Algoma.

Giulia Geraci, Melanie Walters, Nicole Caduro, and Nikki Balachorek scored for Western.

Algoma keeper Megan Chandler made 13 saves.

On Saturday, Geraci scored three times as Western opened the weekend set with a 6-0 win. Caduro, Alyssa Rizzo, and Sabine Gille-Hardy also scored.

Chandler made 12 saves for Algoma in Saturday’s loss.

On the men’s side, Western picked up a 5-1 win on Sunday to cap off the weekend.

Simon Bobok had the lone goal for Algoma.

Scoring details for the Western men were not available at the time of writing.

On Saturday, the Western men’s team scored four times in the opening half en route to a 7-0 win.

Luca Trivisonno and Nimi Adeyemo scored a pair of goals each for Western while Matthew Albert, Braeden Gee, and Jeremy Arnold also scored for Western.

Isaac Lucas made 11 saves for Algoma.
