ABA women's basketball league play underway

The Algoma Basketball Association Women's League has completed its second week of play. On Thursday night, Sports Gold edged Sal Dan 37-36 to improve to 2-0 on the season.

The Algoma Basketball Association Women's League has completed its second week of play.

On Thursday night, Sports Gold edged Sal Dan 37-36 to improve to 2-0 on the season. Stella Viotto led the winners with 10 points while Sarah Miller, Jen Ross, Lisa Medaglia and Danah Viotto added five each.

Ashley Whitmell replied with 13 points for Sal Dan (0-2), Jessica Stone added seven while Brooke Smith and Christina Whitmell added six each.

In the night's opening game, Brody's (1-1) beat Primo Pizza (1-1) 32-24. Heidi Jaaskelainen led Brody's with 20 points while Rachel Cobean topped Primo Pizza with nine points.

Last week in the league openers, Sports Gold used 10 points from Miller and nine from Jessica King to defeat Brody's 52-46. Jaaskelainen led Brody's with 15 points while Terri-Lynn Della Penta and Samantha Rainone added 10 each.

Primo Pizza defeated Sal Dan 54-44 as Lara Stilin led the winners with 16 points while Cobean added 12. Stone paced Sal Dan with 19 points while Smith added seven.
