Debbie Bovingdon of Sault Ste. Marie won a $116,258 jackpot

Debbie Bovingdon won’t have any problems paying off her post-holiday credit card bill.

The Sault Ste. Marie resident won $116,258 in December’s Sault Area Hospital Foundation 50/50 draw with ticket D-11085555.

Bovingdon was in shock when she got the call on Jan. 2.

“Everyone always says, you can’t win if you don’t buy a ticket. I don’t usually but thought even if I don’t win, it’s a good time to support a local charity,” she shared.

She plans to use her winnings to pay off her car along with some other bills, and save for retirement.

Ma Edynne Oris of Sault Ste. Marie was December’s early bird winner, taking home $10,000 on Dec. 19 with ticket number D-26624921.

“A big cash prize and local winner is an incredible way to end 2024! This year alone, over $1 million in prizing was awarded to winners across the Algoma district and beyond” said Teresa Martone, Executive Director for Sault Area Hospital Foundation.

“We are incredibly grateful for all the new and loyal supporters who make this possible. You are helping fund vital medical equipment for our hospital, helping provide outstanding care for everyone in Algoma.”

Tickets for January’s draw are on sale now. Purchase before midnight on Jan. 15 to be eligible for the $10,000 early bird prize. The 50/50 prize will be drawn on Jan. 31.
