If, however, you'd sooner experience hell on our side of the international border, be advised that the Ontario Sault thrash metal band Soldiers of Misfortune, which claims to be "formed in the bowels of hell" and "spawned from the mind of Satan," is playing tomorrrow (Saturday) at a fundraiser for the Sault Ste. Marie Skatepark.

*********************** Lake State Theatre Company presents 'No Exit'

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake State Theatre Company will present a non-traditional view of hell and the internal nature of suffering with the production of Jean-Paul Sartre's "No Exit."

The one-act play, directed by Nikolas Willson, will be presented at 7 p.m. on March 31 and April 1-2 in the Brady Studio Theatre located in the basement of Brady Hall.

Tickets are free for students and staff and available at the door. "Hell has many portraits. In them, we are accustomed to see dark landscapes of suffering, populated by the screaming damned, as they are lashed by demons into lakes of fire, fields of ice, machines of agony," said Willson.

"Boring! Jean-Paul Sartre’s portrait, 'No Exit,' removes these traditional, external manifestations of hell in order to examine the internal nature of suffering."

In the play, three recently deceased from three walks of life are escorted by an indifferent valet into a sparse, bricked-off apartment and left to their own devices. "At first, they are relieved by the innocuous setting," Willson said. "But this is hell. As they confront each other and themselves about their past lives and their current circumstance, a fundamental irony emerges: in their efforts to escape hell, they create it." Willson said the hour-and-a-half play features the talents of William Laubernds, Heather Mydosh, Jason Swedene Ph.D., and Dariel Tauriainen.
