Highway 17 at Garbage Disposal Road in Havilland Township near Harmony Beach has re-opened

The return of wintry weather and poor driving conditions was impacting roads north and east of the Sault on Sunday evening.

Ontario 511 was reporting Hwy. 17 north of the Sault closed at Garbage Disposal Road in Havilland Township near Harmony Beach due to a collision. That closure took effect shortly after 5 p.m. There was no estimate on when the road would reopen.

Flooding on Hwy. 552 had the road closed in both directions near Bellevue Valley Road in Goulais River and Heyden area. That closure took effect Saturday morning and remained in effect late Sunday afternoon.

Hwy. 556 between Searchmont and Ranger Lake was also closed due to weather conditions.

Hwy. 129 from Thessalon north to Ranger Lake was also closed.

Further north, Highway 11 was closed in both directions between Kapuskasing and Cochrane. That closure started around 4:45 p.m. 

West of Timmins, the closure of Highway 101 between Foleyet and Wawa was cleared at around 6 p.m. after having been in effect for about four hours. However there was a new closure notice put out at around 6:30 p.m. stating the highway was being closed again between Timmins and Wawa.

After a couple of days of spring-like weather, winter has returned to many parts of the north. 

Environment Canada weather alerts include flash freeze warnings and snowfall warnings for several areas including Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Gogama and Foleyet.
