A winter weather advisory has been issued for Sault Ste. Marie and St. Joseph Island.

Environment Canada says to expect lake effect snow on Sunday.

Flurries are forecast to start early Sunday morning, moving south of the area by Sunday evening.

We should get 5 to 10 cm by Sunday afternoon.

Environment Canada says there could be reduced visibility at times due to heavy and/or blowing snow.

“Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow,” it said in the advisory.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.”

Snowfall totals are expected to be higher north of the city where there’s a snow squall warning in effect.
