Winter travel advisory issued for Searchmont area

Wind gusts up to 80 km/h and 10 cm of snow expected

Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for the Searchmont and Lake Superior Park areas as strong winds and brief periods of heavy snow are expected to continue today.

Windy conditions are expected to taper off this afternoon while periods of snow will happen through to this evening.

Earlier today, Environment Canada issued a weather alert for Sault Ste. Marie that includes strong winds, snow and rain warnings.

As a result of winter weather conditions, a number of area highways are closed to all traffic.

Full text of the Searchmont, Lake Superior Park advisory follows:

Weather advisory issued for:
    •    Agawa - Lake Superior Park
    •    Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay

Current details:
Winter weather travel advisory in effect.

Strong winds and snow continue today.

Hazards:
Brief periods of heavy snow giving reduced visibility.
Snowfall accumulations possibly exceeding 10 cm.
Wind gusts up to 80 km/h.

Timing:
Periods of snow continuing this morning through tonight.
Windy conditions continuing this morning through this afternoon.

Discussion: Periods of heavy snow giving reduced visibility will continue through the day, which may result in poor road conditions at times. Strong easterly winds gusting up to 80 km/h continue this morning. The winds will ease this afternoon.

Isolated utility outages are possible.

Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
