One new wildland fire was confirmed late afternoon Friday, according to a news release from the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services section of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

Sudbury 15 (SUD015) is a 0.1-hectare fire on the western shore of Crab Lake, 2.5 kilometres southeast of Cartier. It is not under control.

The fire hazard is primarily moderate to high across most of the Northeast Region except for two areas of extreme fire hazard north of Cochrane and Kapuskasing and some pockets of low fire hazard throughout the region.

Northeast Region   

There was one new wildland fire confirmed late afternoon today, Thursday, June 21. There are currently three active wildland fires in the Northeast Fire Region.

  • Sudbury 15 (SUD015) is a 0.1-hectare fire on the western shore of Crab Lake, 2.5 kilometres southeast of Cartier. It is not under control.
  • Cochrane 8 (COC008) is a 35-hectare fire that is being observed. This fire is located about 57.5 kilometres northwest of Moosonee.
  • Cochrane 9 (COC009) is a 6,022-hectare fire that is being observed. This fire is located east of Parson Lake and eight kilometres west of the Quebec border.

The fire hazard is primarily moderate to high across most of the Northeast Region except for two areas of extreme fire hazard north of Cochrane and Kapuskasing and some pockets of low fire hazard throughout the region.

Help fight forest fires: Stay clear of waterbombers

When waterbombers approach a body of water, move close to the shore so they can perform their scoop safely. A waterbomber will not scoop from a lake or river if encroaching watercraft pose a safety hazard. Be safe, stay clear of waterbombers.
