On Saturday, March 1, Searchmont Resort held the SAFA Slopefest.
Slopefest is a celebration of freestyle application of the sport.
The event drew around 35 contestants and brought together the art of freestyle and music.
A live band played played inside the lodge to celebrate the occasion and their music was heard by the blasting on the outdoor speakers.
Adam Hayward, Marketing and Events for Searchmont Resort, was on hand to discuss the day's activities saying it was a first time for this type of event.
He said the slope style competition is held in the terrain park with rails, features and jumps.
Judging of the event is based on using the entire terrain, as well as style and competition on the rails and jumps.
The idea is to use the full course, and not the same jump over and over again.
Adam said: "The event is based on age and ability. The prize for men`s and women's open is substantial for this type of event. Winners will take home $300 cash prize."
Adam said that the Sault area has some great talent and this prize will hopefully attract athletes from our local area as well as other areas to make it a great competition.
"This competition is a great way to show case Searchmont's terrain and our local talent."
