When City Constable Dave Doucette was out on patrol May 31, 2005, he noticed a car with its front licence plate missing.

Further investigation revealed that the driver and occupant of the car were wanted by Sudbury Police for an armed bank robbery there.

Constable Doucette's actions led to the apprehension of the suspects.

And Sudbury Police were so grateful they nominated the Sault Ste. Marie City Police officer for a special award.

Gerry Hanlan, manager of protective services, securities and investments for the Bank of Nova Scotia and R. Warren Law, senior vice-president for corporate operations and general counsel at the Canadian Bankers' Association presented the Regional Security Award to Constable Doucette at Sault Ste. Marie Police Service headquarters this week.

They're shown with Doucette and the certificate of recognition he was given.

"As a police service, we are all very proud of Dave" said City Police Chief Bob Davies.

Doucette is in his eighth year as a police officer with City Police.

"He is now working with our Emergency Services Unit," said Chief Davies. "Which says something about the officer, to progress in that short a period of time."

Doucette said he was a little confused by all the attention but appreciates the recognition from his fellow officers.

"It's nice to be recognized for something we do everyday," said Doucette. "But I really didn't think it [his role in the arrests] was that big of a deal."

Doucette's wife and mother were on hand at the police station this week to see him receive his certificate.

To show its appreciation for Doucette's role in apprehending two suspects alleged to have committed multiple armed bank robberies, the Canadian Bankers Association and the Bank of Nova Scotia also donated $500 to Sault Ste. Marie Rotary in Doucette's name.
