Weekend Outlook: History repeats - from warmth to feet of snow

There's no risk of a green Christmas this year

History does repeat itself in the weather world. A month ago, we compared the Fall heat to 1947 and 2021 and spoke about the record heat in early November in those years, which turned into higher-than-normal snowfall at the end of the month.

And here we are—soon to be measuring the snow in feet, not centimetres—many locations around Sault Ste. Marie will count 50-100cm of snowfall in the past week. The long-range forecast suggests that not much will change, and even more could be coming. There's no risk of a green Christmas this year.

The snow squalls continue on Friday and intensify, with temperatures near the freezing mark and another 15-30cm of new snow.

We will see more squalls on Saturday, and another 10-20cm of snow is possible as temperatures linger around the freezing mark.

As the squalls finally end, we should see some sunshine on Sunday and temperatures near 0°C. For those wanting a break from shovelling, we should also start next week without any snow squalls.
