The City of Sault Ste. Marie has some updates on the ongoing significant weather event locally.

Delays are being experienced on Sault Transit routes while parabus service may have difficulties accessing unplowed parking lots.

The city is also asking citizens not to leave garbage and recycling bins out the night before collection as it can cause plowing and snow removal issues.

Instead of the night before, the city is asking that bins be placed curbside before 7 a.m. on collection day. Basketball and other sports nets should also not be placed near the street.

Public works crews are continuing to be deployed to keep up with snowfall and potential ice accumulation. During significant events, arterial and collector roads are prioritized, followed by residential streets.

Citizens are asked to make sure their vehicle are not blocking sidewalks and to avoid parking on city streets. The city's parking bylaw is in effect, which prohibits parking on city streets between midnight and 6 a.m. during the winter months.

Anyone on the roadways is asked to drive according to the conditions and maintain a safe distance for heavy equipment operators to clear and sand roadways safely and efficiently.
