Residents and business owners in Desbarats, east of the Sault, were put under a boil water advisory today after a notice was sent out by Johnson Township.
The township is advising all users of the municipal water system to boil their water before using it for drinking, cooking, washing food, or brushing teeth, due to a potential problem with the water system.
"The water can be made safe by boiling it for at least two minutes at a rolling boil. Boiled water should be stored in a clean container in the refrigerator. Alternatively, bottled water can be used," the town said.
The town, which is also home to Central Algoma Secondary and Elementary School (CASS), said the public will be notified when service is returned to normal and the water is again safe to drink.
The notice comes after two other notices today, one about an impending shutdown of the water system that encouraged people to prepare bottled water.
An earlier notice advised of loss of water pressure throughout the system. "Public Works is aware of the issue and is working diligently to get it fixed," the advisory says. "We appreciate your patience as we resolve this issue."
Those affected can find more information at the township's website.
