Dozens of locals made their way down to the Jo Foreman Track at the John Rhodes Community Centre on Sunday to take part in the city’s seventh annual Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History.
The Sault is one of many communities across the country taking part in the nationwide walk to help raise funds and awareness for those living with cystic fibrosis (CF).
CF is an incurable genetic disorder that causes damage to the lungs, digestive system, and other organs in the body.
Leah Senecal, the co-walk coordinator of Sunday’s event, says they’re thrilled to welcome the community back to the track.
“We’re very fortunate to be back out in-person today,” she says. “I’m so happy to see all these faces we haven’t seen in three years. It’s just nice to be back out and getting to see the kids that have grown up is awesome. It’s great to see everybody.”
Several walkers are living with CF and could be identified with a blue bandana.
The local walk has so far raised over $11,000 for CF Canada, with a goal to reach $15,000.
