Earlier this week, Village Media, the company that operates this news site, opened its first owned and operated site outside Canada with the launch of AlimoshoToday in Nigeria.
It's big news in our world and we thought you would want to know, so we're sharing the press release with the details:
Village Media is thrilled to once again be creating tangible change in the media landscape by filling a news void and providing a reliable local news source to a community in need with the launch of AlimoshoToday.com.
AlimoshoToday represents the only daily news source dedicated to the Local Government Area of Alimosho in Lagos State, Nigeria, providing local news and community information to a population of over 1.8 million people. The launch of a dedicated local news site for the region will be a significant catalyst for healthy community growth in Alimosho.
We are committed to providing accurate, timely and community-driven reporting to the communities we serve. It is with our mission of strengthening communities guiding us that we chose to expand our network of local media websites to include AlimoshoToday, in a region that has historically been devoid of meaningful local news coverage.
We are excited to bring our community-first approach to Alimosho to help connect community members, businesses and organizations through information sharing. Our team of local reporters will hold those in power accountable, provide unbiased updates on happenings in the area, recognize people making a difference in their community, share information about local events and initiatives and celebrate the achievements of neighbours. The introduction of AlimoshoToday to the region brings with it a new opportunity for community connection and cohesion through a local lens for the area’s residents.
The local AlimoshoToday team is led by publisher Dupe Akinola and editor Adenike Sotade and includes senior news reporter Oluwafunmilayo Daramola, reporters Gideon Adonai and Josephine Kolawole and site administrator Adedamola Oni.
“We believe that locally-driven news is essential to communities. Now more than ever that statement rings true. It is why we have started or helped launch more than 30 digital news sites in communities across Canada and internationally,” said Jeff Elgie, CEO of Village Media.
The AlimoshoToday team looks forward to keeping their community informed, as the go-to source for delivering the latest news in their community, as it happens.
