Two wildfires burning in Ontario's Northeast Region

There are two wildland fires burning in Ontario's Northeast Region.

North Bay 5 near the community of Cobalt is not under control, while Timmins 3 at the southeast corner of Lower Opikinimika Lake is being held.

No new wildfires have been confirmed as of late afternoon Sunday.

The fire hazard is low across most of the region, with pockets of moderate fire hazard north of Cochrane to James Bay, areas west of Sudbury and south of Algonquin Provincial Park.

Northeast Region   

There were no new wildland fires confirmed in the Northeast Region by the late afternoon of May 26.

There are 2 active wildland fires in the Northeast Region:

  • North Bay 5 (NOR005) is a 106 hectare fire located 3 kilometres southeast of the community of Cobalt near the east shore of Kerr Lake It is not under control. Eight FireRanger crews are committed to this fire. Please remain clear of the area to ensure the safety of the public and emergency personnel.
  • Timmins 3 (TIM003) is located at the southeast corner of Lower Opikinimika Lake. This 10.7 hectare fire is being held.

The fire hazard is low across the majority of the Northeast Region, with pockets of moderate fire hazard north of Cochrane to James Bay, areas west of Sudbury and south of Algonquin Provincial Park.

Follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations 

Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind the public to use caution when performing any outdoor burning. In order to dispose of yard waste and woody debris, we encourage you to use methods such as composting or using your local landfill. If you must burn, follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations. 

Fires are to be ignited no sooner than two hours before sunset and are to be extinguished no later than two hours after sunrise. Always have tools/water adequate to contain the fire at the site. Know the rules for safe outdoor burning; consult the full set of Outdoor Burning Regulations
