MINISTRY OF NATURAL RESOURCES

*************************** Forest fire situation update

There has been one new fire reported today in the East Fire Region.

Wawa 8 was discovered this afternoon at one hectare in size.

Two crews as well as a CL-415 have responded to the fire.

The general cause of the fire is human, the exact cause is under investigation.

There was also one new fire reported yesterday, June 7.

Timmins 7 was discovered in the evening, north east of Porcupine Lake.

One municipal crew responded as well as two Fire Ranger crews.

The fire is currently 4.4 hectares and is being held by the two fire crews.

Timmins 7 has been attributed to human caused and is under investigation.

Recent precipitation has brought most of the East Fire Region into a low to moderate fire hazard.

However forecasted precipitation over the next few days will likely bring the fire hazard to low across the region.

Traditionally in the spring, people do clean up around their rural homes and cottages and use brush pile fires and grass fires to remove dead grass and brush, or ignite woody debris in burning barrels.

These types of fires always carry the risk of spreading into wildfires if not properly managed.

Always make sure you follow safe burning guidelines as set out under the Forest Fires Prevention Act and if you live within a municipality, please contact your local municipal office or fire department before burning.
