Two new forest fires in the north

Both new fires are in the Wawa area

A pair of new forest fires have been discovered in the latest forest fire update for the north.

Wawa 7, which is currently not under control at 0.1 of a hectare, is located east of Pukaskwa National Park.

The second fire, Wawa 8, is also not under control at 1 hectare and is located northeast of Killala Lake.

The new fires bring the total number of active fires in the region to 13 and the two new fires are the only two not currently under control.

Among the other fires, seven are being observed, three are under control, and the other is being held.

The Wawa area and most of the Highway 11 corridor are under a high fire hazard as of Friday afternoon while the central and southern portions of the region are currently seeing a low to moderate hazard.
