As 10,000 Saultites lose access to Group Health Centre's family doctors this week, a couple of local pharmacies have announced free virtual doctor service.

“Our mission is to ensure that every member of the Sault Ste. Marie community has access to essential healthcare services,” said IDA Merrett’s and Group Health Centre Pharmacies in a news release.

“We aim to alleviate the burden on our healthcare system and provide our patients with the support they require to reduce emergency room wait times and the stress of not having access to a primary care provider.”

The service is open to everyone regardless of their chosen pharmacy.

For more information or to schedule an appointment contact one of the two locations:

  • IDA Merrett’s Pharmacy located at 314 Wellington Street West or phone (705) 945-8465
  • IDA Group Health Centre Pharmacy at 240 McNabb Street or phone (705) 759-5578

The pharmacies say they are also working with a recruiter to try and bring a doctor to the Sault.

“In working together, we can continue to advocate for the health of all members of our community,” the news release added.

“Stay tuned for further updates regarding our advancing services and efforts to recruit a medical professional to provide consultations at our two locations."
