Sault College Registrar Mary Ellen Tomie is recommending a tuition increase of up to five percent next year.

The college's board of governors deferred the matter at a meeting yesterday.

Tomie is recommending the increase be averaged across all program areas for the 2008/2009 academic year.

When the board deals with this item, it's expected to review a breakdown of increases by program according to Ontario government. directives.

In an unrelated matter, Sault College's director of marketing and communications, Susan Hunter, reports that the college's much anticipated multimedia centre is nearly complete.

They're just running the last wires, testing the equipment and making sure everything works well together, she said.

Hunter said an official opening of the new centre is expected in March.
