Townhouse projects proposed near Second Line West, Wallace Terrace

City councillors will also be asked Monday to approve a landmark Métis cultural centre in the former Church of St. John the Evangelist site on John Street

Sault Ste. Marie city councillors will be asked next week to approve a total of 60 new townhouse units in separate developments on Second Line West and a vacant block at Patrick Street and Wallace Terrace.

Dave Ruscio (1890685 Ontario Inc.) is applying for draft plan of condominium approval for 49 units at 331 Patrick St.

The 14-building townhouse development will infill a vacant block bounded by Wallace Terrace, Gillies Street and Henrietta Avenue.

The second proposal is from David Toppan & Benjamin Cicchelli (2779594 Ontario Inc.).

They're seeking zoning changes allowing three townhouse buildings (11 housing units) and eight buildings for personal storage at 561 and 571 Second Line West.

Drawings submitted to the city's planning staff show 29 per cent of the lot occupied by mini-storage units and 24 per cent by townhouses.

There will be a two-metre-tall privacy fence around the development.

Also next week, Métis Nation of Ontario will seek zoning approval for a new cultural centre at the former Church of St. John the Evangelist site at 138 John St., as well as an assembly hall in the former church hall at 136 John St. and office space in the former rectory at 134 John.

Councillors will be asked to reduce the usual 30-space parking requirement for the project to 10 spaces.

Monday's virtual City Council meeting will be livestreamed on SooToday starting at 4:30 p.m.
