TONY MARTIN, MP ********************* Tony Martin joins all-party outdoors caucus
SAULT STE. MARIE – Sault MP Tony Martin has joined a new all-party Parliamentary Outdoors Caucus created to support people fishing, hunting, trapping and sport shooting and promotes a safety credo and conservation ethic.
"Many people in my riding and across Canada participate in these sports. They are a way of life and part of our culture and heritage," Martin said.
"It is important that members of Parliament recognize the interests of these groups." The objectives of the caucus include:
To ensure that Canadians continue to have reasonable access to federally managed public lands and waters to enjoy traditional outdoor heritage activities; To increase awareness of the economic importance of outdoor heritage activities to Canada's economy, and to support the growth of outdoor activities, heritage businesses and jobs;
To preserve and promote the traditional Canadian outdoor heritage activities and the environmental stewardship ethic upon which they are based; and
To support multiple sustainable uses and management of public lands, waters, fish, wildlife and habitat, based on sound science and professional natural resource tenets, for the benefit of all Canadians
To date, the caucus has 24 MPs and a senator.
