Thunder Bay 50/50 jackpot soars past $5 million

The December 2024 jackpot is now more than $1 million higher than last December's record-setting $3.98-million grand prize.

THUNDER BAY – A year ago, the Thunder Bay 50/50 jackpot hit a whopping $3.98 million in December.

It now pales in comparison to this year’s Christmastime grand prize, which on Sunday soared past $5 million, with four days of ticket sales remaining.

The jackpot caps an incredible year of fundraising for the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, which has sold more than $43 million in 50/50 tickets in 2024, about $13 million more than it did in 2023, when more than $30 million in tickets were sold.

Proceeds from the draw are used to fund equipment at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, with money from the record-breaking December draw being directed at improvements to the overcrowded emergency department at the hospital.

Tickets are available at www.thunderbay5050.ca or at the Foundation’s storefront at Intercity Shopping Centre, and are on sale until 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 2. The draw takes place at 11 a.m. on Jan. 3.
