Sept. 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

A number of city-operated facilities and services will be closed on Monday in observance of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation — including all hockey arenas, the Civic Centre and the landfill.

The following city facilities will be closed on Monday, Sept. 30, 2024, in observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

  • All arenas will be closed (John Rhodes, GFL Memorial Gardens and Northern Community Centre)
  • Bay Street Active Living Centre and Northern Community Centre Seniors 55+ programs
  • City Landfill and Household Hazardous Waste Depot
  • Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site
  • GFL Memorial Gardens office and box office
  • Public Works office. For 24-hour emergency service, call 705-759-5201.
  • Ronald A. Irwin Civic Centre
  • Sault Transit main office is closed.

Garbage and Recycling Collection

There will be no garbage, leaf, yard waste, or recycling pickup on Monday, Sept. 30. Collection for the remainder of the week will be one day late.

Leaf and Yard Waste is collected on your scheduled garbage day every second week or you can drop off your collection for free at the Household Hazardous Waste Depot. To view the Leaf and Yard Waste collection calendar, visit the website.

The City’s landfill and Household Hazardous Waste Depot will be closed on Sept. 30. For more information, visit the website or call Public Works at 705-759- 5201.

The following facilities and services are open and operating on Monday, Sept. 30:

  • Cemetery main office will be open
  • James L. McIntyre Centennial Library and the North Branch Library will be open
  • Regular transit and Parabus service will operate
  • John Rhodes pools are open for regular programming
  • Northern Community Centre
